British American Tobacco

Colin Denyer of British American Tobacco stated the following at trial in an extremely confident manner.

The Mole was introduced to us and we were shown a copy of a report by the British Army. Only a basic outline was provided by Global Technical Ltd at BAT HQ in London.

They did no trials with GTL.

When they purchased one device he stated that they did some tests at Earls Court and overseas and the Mole just didn't work and was put to one side. He was so disappointed that it didn't work that he thought it a fraud and could cost peoples lives.

He was questioned on that statement as to ethics with a tobacco company and the cost of lives but this wasn't explored as it should have been!!

The truth
Mr Denyer omitted a number of things and his confident manner disappeared, funny how people forget what has happend in the past until they are reminded.

Mr Denyer was reminded of the following:
On 4th May 2004 Geoff Gillion of BAT copied an email to Global Technical, David Haydock, Bob Locke, Muhammed Adam and Colin Denyer stating:
Many thanks for your impressive trial at Southampton for us last week.

This trial was carried out at the container port near BAT offices and GTL were asked to search the container port from the outside and reply with the results. The results were two containers identified out of more than 100 and a BAT official had to check the container manifest to see which ones had tobacco in them. The correct location was identified for each container. This was a true operational double blind test that was successful. It was not random chance selection.

He forgot about this trial! He denied it was a proper trial! Lies. It was a very successful trial.

It was pointed out that the Mole could locate very small amounts of tobacco , a few flakes up to a container load. The device was offered as a low cost tobacco locator but BAT chose to purchase a complete set. It was from the Research and development budget as everybody was aware that the device may need further development.

In September 2004 emails were shown to Colin Denyer that he sent to GTL outlining the need to investigate a new way forward for tobacco detection by using Nicotine and about their loan unit.

Not only had BAT been using the purchased Mole for 6 months they even had a loan unit free of charge to deploy. Hardly the actions of a scammer.
There were issues being able to locate mid size amounts of tobacco as single cigarettes are to small and containers not that common so ideally a suitcase size detection card would be good. GTL and BAT were investigating different methods of detecting tobacco and the last communication was in Feb 2005 seeing how to proceed.
The result was that the product purchased was capable of detecting tobacco as stated, the issue was the amount and both parties realised it was an impossible task and accepted that it could not currently be adapted to BAT use.

BAT took no action against GTL because they understood the difficulties and both parties were disappointed at the outcome. No report of fraud was made to the Police.

So why have BAT been brought in for the prosecution. BAT have a strong lobby with the government, the anti smuggling division of BAT are all ex members of the UK law enforcement departments and can have pressure exerted on them.

Why is BAT the ONLY client at the trial who purchased the Mole and are unhappy! Because they can be controlled by the UK. Colin Denyer clearly lied about the project and as he has close links with the UK Police, can easily be told to testify.

Where are all the other clients that are unhappy? This is the only one the prosecution could find in 14 years and this one was from 2004/2005, 9 years ago!

Here is the proof of the lies
